Missing Google Tasks Panel in Gmail? Here Is How to Get It Back
The Gmail right-hand sidebar is many users' primary entry point for Google Tasks. When the Tasks icon disappears, productivity drops fast—especially for people who capture action items directly from email threads.
Check Gmail Sidebar Settings First
On Gmail web, click the gear icon, then See all settings, and ensure Google Tasks is enabled in the right-side panel. In newer Gmail layouts, click the + at the bottom of the sidebar to re-add Tasks if it was removed.
Workspace Admin Controls
For Google Workspace accounts, administrators can disable Tasks at the organizational level. Ask your admin to verify that Google Tasks is turned on in the Admin console under Apps > Google Workspace > Tasks.
Quick Recovery Checklist
- Hard refresh Gmail (Ctrl+Shift+R) after changing sidebar settings.
- Try an incognito window to rule out extension conflicts.
- Confirm you are signed into the correct Google account.
