Workalizer MCP: Overview and Getting Started

The Workalizer MCP server lets AI assistants such as Cursor, ChatGPT, and Claude query your organization's Google Workspace analytics through the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Instead of exporting reports or switching to the Workalizer web app, you can ask natural-language questions and the assistant calls read-only tools that return the same underlying data as the Workalizer dashboard and performance reports.

What Is Workalizer MCP?

MCP is an open standard for connecting AI applications to external data sources and tools. Workalizer hosts a remote MCP server at https://mcp.workalizer.com/sse that exposes analytics tools backed by the same query layer as the Workalizer API and web app. When you connect an MCP client, you sign in with your Google Workspace account (OAuth 2.1), and the server returns workspace analytics only for data your Workalizer role is allowed to see.

Who Benefits

  • Managers and team leads: Ask about communication, meetings, and time allocation without opening multiple reports.
  • HR and People Operations: Pull period-over-period summaries for reviews and workforce planning conversations.
  • Executives and operations: Get quick answers about team activity trends from an AI assistant you already use.
  • Power users in Cursor or ChatGPT: Combine Workalizer data with coding, writing, or planning workflows in one place.

How Authentication Works

  1. You add the Workalizer MCP endpoint to your AI client (Cursor, ChatGPT, or Claude).
  2. On first use, a browser window opens for Google Workspace sign-in.
  3. After approval, the MCP client receives an access token scoped to your Workalizer user.
  4. Every tool call checks your workspace permissions — the same rules as the Workalizer web app.

Only Google Workspace accounts are supported (not personal @gmail.com accounts). You need an active Workalizer user linked to your organization's workspace.

Endpoint and Transport

  • Production URL: https://mcp.workalizer.com/sse
  • Transport: Server-Sent Events (SSE) / Streamable HTTP
  • Tools: Six read-only analytics tools (see MCP Tools Reference)

Security and Data Access

All MCP tools are read-only. The server does not modify Google Workspace data. Analytics are computed from the same aggregated usage data Workalizer already processes for dashboards and reports — not from email body text, document contents, or chat message text. Access is denied if your user is inactive or lacks workspace analytics permissions.
