Google Tasks Subtasks: Nesting Limits and Organization Tips
Google Tasks added subtasks to simplify breaking work into steps, but users quickly discover that nesting depth is intentionally shallow. Google Tasks supports a parent task with indented subtasks beneath it—you cannot nest subtasks under other subtasks.
Organizing Complex Projects
- Split by phase: Use separate parent tasks for Planning, Build, and Launch.
- Multiple lists: Create a list per workstream.
- Prefix conventions: Name subtasks with codes like "1.1", "1.2".
Shallow nesting keeps Google Tasks fast and aligned with quick capture workflows.
